Domaine Bruno Lorenzon 2022 Bourgogne Rouge "Les 16 Ouvrees", Burgundy
Bruno Lorenzon is known as, “The Maestro of Mercurey” as his wines are so far above the typical quality of Mercurey. This Bourgogne Rouge is a perfect way to dip your palate in the Maestro’s pool if you get me. All organic, super refined fruit with a ton of dried violets. You get some earthy mushroom/forest floor but the fruit and flowers take the wheel. Such a pretty wine.
International wine critics have been heaping praise on this fairly young estate from Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise. I thought I should learn more about Lorenzon, so I started with their Bourgogne rouge (a useful place to start when learning about any Burgundian domaine). The color in this wine is a gorgeous translucent ruby, and it offers a complex aroma of roses and a touch of roasted meat. The flavor makes me smile—bright red cherries and minerals with a luxurious mouthfeel. The long finish persists with the same cherries and a faint touch of milk chocolate. Ample fruit is held in by a proper amount of acidity. It is a lovely wine that has only piqued my curiosity for the Mercureys of Lorenzon.
