Domaine Bruno Lorenzon 2022 Mercurey 1er Cru "Carline Clos des Champs Martin", Burgundy
“I am convinced that there are very few estates in the Côte d’Or operating on Lorenzon’s level today…..this only confirms my view that this is one of the best addresses in contemporary Burgundy.” – William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Bruno Lorenzon, also known as The Maestro of Mercurey, has a cult following in France and other parts of the world, but is a relative new comer here in California. His wines are incredibly allocated, so I feel honored that the importer wanted to make sure we had some here at The Wine Country. This 1er Cru is showing such regal character. Opulant in the dark fruits, black currant, raspberries and succulent cherries, but this wine does not end with just fruit. Sewn into the flavors are those of coco powder, licorice, dried roses and distant smoke. So alluring it gave me chills. You have some power here o the palate too, muscles, but draped in silk. A wine to hold on to for 5 years but I can’t stop myself from deinking wines like this, so decanting or letting the wine open before dinner, and hour or three, and you are set.
