Domaine Bruno Lorenzon 2022 Mercurey "Les Vignes d'Orge", Burgundy
“I am convinced that there are very few estates in the Côte d’Or operating on Lorenzon’s level today…..this only confirms my view that this is one of the best addresses in contemporary Burgundy.” – William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Now if that isn’t telling us something I don’t know what is. Wines of Bruno Lorenzon are truly some of the most thrilling I have had in sometime, and while the prices seem higher for the appellation, they are a fraction of the cost you would pay, for this level of wine, from places like Pommard or Gevrey Chambertin. An early advocate for organic farming, his plots have not seen chemicals in 50 years. This is a winery to start paying attention to, like now. Les Vignes d’Orge is one of my favorites as I find it to be the most sultry. I love that earthy thing that makes me think of walking through a forest, wet, earthy, fresh with wild herbs. You mix that with plump, red fruit and smoke and I am a goner. Simple slab of red meat and this wine….wow.
