Domaine Huet 2023 Vouvray Sec Le Haut-Lieu, Loire Valley

Huet is one of the grandest of the old guard Vouvray houses.  The sometimes harrowing, sometimes glorious history of this estate is literally one for the books.  Often one of the more soulful Vouvrays, Huet’s 2023 Vouvray has opened up to reveal some subtle beeswax-y elements, with generous, ripe and ample fruit giving an almost sec-tendre character, but the brilliant acidity of its Chenin Blanc allows the wine to possess a fresh-tasting finish.  I’d serve this with any and all poultry, including Cornish game hens, roast chicken, duck, and even pork dishes.  Very impressive.
