This super-rare bottling (less than 75 cases are made) is simply gorgeous. It is an elegant, beautifully balanced white Burgundy that is a joy to drink.
Description
One of the most gorgeous white Burgundies I’ve sampled in a long time. Les Chavalières is a lieu-dit, a vineyard plot (and the only white wine of the estate) purchased by Joseph Voillot, grandfather of the current winemaker Etienne Chaix. This is a super-rare bottling—only 1 to 3 barrels are made each year, depending on the harvest (25 to 75 cases), so we’re lucky to have a few bottles for the store. There is beautiful fruit here, accented by just a touch of oak and a touch of caramel. Showing well now, but will develop nicely over the next few years. Incidentally, Etienne told me his grandmother loved drinking the estate’s “Les Chevalieres.”
The Wine Country.
