Domaine Tempier 2024 Bandol Blanc, Provence
A small amount of Bandol Blanc is produced every year, and it is made with the nearby seafood port of Bandol in mind. Think Mediterranean-prepared seafood stews and you get the idea.
This 18-hectare piece of land bought in 2016 is oriented east, south–east, located at 300 meters altitude. It is a terroir with an exceptional potential; its cooler orientation is what interested the estate, emphasizing the freshness of this white wine. Blended from Clairette (60%), Ugni blanc (30%) with Rolle, Bourboulenc, and Marsanne; the average age of the vines is 25-30 years. Typically one can age this for 1 to 5 years, but a much longer aging is possible to evolve towards more honeyed and marine aromas.
"The 2024 Bandol Blanc—based on 60% Clairette with 30% Ugni Blanc and the rest Rolle, Marsanne and Roussanne—unwinds with light scents of lemon flesh and white flowers. One night of skin contact has shaped its tender, delicate profile. Medium-bodied, crisp and already showing well, the 2024 carries its softness with subtle charm and finishes on an enticingly fresh note."--Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous
