It's a rare gem, a little village in northern Burgundy that for reasons of soil and tradition require Sauvignon Blanc to be planted. It's a tame version, neither assertive nor searing, merely pleasant to drink.
Description
Not every wine lover realizes this, but 20 minutes from Chablis lies the only growing region in Burgundy that requires Sauvignon Blanc to be grown there—Saint-Bris. Domaine Verret is the same family that makes one of our best-selling French sparkling wines, from Pinot Noir grown in nearby Irancy. This Sauvignon is not terribly herbaceous, giving us a medium-weighted white wine that is pleasant rather than assertive, crisp rather than searing. Enjoy this Burgundian secret.
