Ferrari Trentodoc Brut, Trento, Italy

Italian sparkling wine takes many forms.  Bold Lambrusco from Emilia-Romagna, Franciacorta from Lombardy, sweet Asti from Piedmont and other local bubblies simply marked “Spumante”.  There is one winery we’ve carried from time to time whose north star seems to be Champagne itself and that is Ferrari from northern Italy’s Trento region.  Here, this traditional Blanc de Blancs is made completely from Chardonnay and it is quite pleasant to drink.  With a clean aroma and attractive, minerally fruit, this easy-to-like sparkler isn’t overly rambunctious, but perfectly fine with a moderate showing of effervescence on the palate.  Good value, too.
