Kuentz-Bas 2024 Pinot Blanc, Alsace
When I first visited the charming Alsace region, one of my most treasured memories was stopping by Kuentz-Bas. I’d always been a fan of their Pinot Blanc which I felt was a quintessential example of the variety, and an all-purpose dry white wine that would taste good with just about everything. Years later when I opened The Wine Country, the Kuentz-Bas Pinot Blanc was not far behind, and for many vintages it was our standard-bearer. We took a break from it for some reason so it wasn’t until recently that I had a chance to reacquaint myself with it. And what a pleasant surprise it is. Soft, pear-like fruit (not as minerally as I remembered from the good old days), but very easy-drinking. And at just 12.5% alcohol, it makes an inviting weekday white wine that is just as fun to drink as an aperitif as it is with chicken or fish in butter sauce. A Kermit Lynch import.
