Lauverjat 2022 Sancerre Rouge "Moulin des Vrilleres", Loire Valley

Pinot Noir is the grape, but reds from Sancerre are nothing like anything you’ve experienced before.  And it takes a good vintage and a skillful producer to bring out the best.  Vrillères is the name of the stream that runs by the house where the family also grows other crops.  There is more clay in this parcel; perhaps that’s why the fruit is a bit more friendly than most reds from the region.  A lovely aroma wafts up from the glass; in the mouth, a handsome firm structure holds the minerally red together.
