Louis Roque La Vieille Prune Aged Plum Brandy, Gascony, France

The Louis Roque distillery is in Souillac on the site of an ancient convent in the Lot department, not far from the wine town of Cahors and tourist mecca Sarlat.  The region is rich in gastronomic delights such as black truffles, foie gras, walnuts and naturally, plums.  It is now in its fifth generation of family ownership.  How do you go about describing this brandy?  Cognac-like?  Rich and full bodied?  Unique?  Words simply fail to capture the wonderful flavors and textures of this captivating brandy.  From Gascony plums, it's an amazing dark brandy with an absolutely haunting fruitiness and exotic spice flavors.
