Mas Jullien 2021 Terrasses Du Larzac "Autour De Jonquieres", Languedoc-Roussillon
Mas Jullien is a trailblazing winery located northwest of Montpelier in the foothills of a limestone plateau. Founded in 1985 by Olivier Jullien, Mas Jullien wasn’t content just selling grapes to the local co-op for plonk. Olivier knew there was more here, and over the years has grown his estate to include some of the most desirable vineyard land in the south of France. This is the estate’s core offering, and what a wine it is! It has a gorgeous aroma and flavor with no rough edges, from the Languedoc, no less! Composed of 40% Carignan, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah, this elegant red performs more like a vin de garde than a rustic country wine. Quite elegant and an exciting discovery for us.
“The 2021 Terrasses du Larzac Autour de Jonquières is another wine that shows just how impressive this vintage is here. Aromatic and powerful, with notable punch, the 2021 delivers the goods. Dark red cherry, plum, cedar, new leather and sweet pipe tobacco infuse the 2021 with real character and nuance. This is gorgeous stuff.”—Antonio Galloni, Vinous
