A light red wine with bright acidity, a brilliant cherry colored hue, while the nose shows fresh berries, cherries, earthiness and some spices. The palate shows cassis, blackberry, plum, bacon and leather with integrated tannins.
Description
The ancient local grape Trousseau produces lighter reds in the Jura, Pinot-esque, but a little gamier and higher in acidity to accompany the rich cream-and-cheese dishes of the region, including duck and Bresse chicken (grown nearby) often served with a morel cream sauce. Paul Benoit founded his winery in the commune of Pupillin in 1976. His son Christophe is now running the operation. The cellar uses local foudres for aging.
Winery tasting notes: Brilliant cherry colored hue while the nose shows fresh berries, cherries, earthiness and a bit of spices. The palate shows cassis, blackberry, plum, bacon and leather with integrated tannins. Ready to drink now, it will age gracefully for 3-5 years.
