This crisp and handsome wine comes from the successors of the Jo Pithon estate, this is a novel blend of Melon de Bourgogne, the grape of Muscadet, and blanc de noirs from a small proportion of the Loire native Grolleau.
Description
The 2024 is another fine release from this fairly new operation. Grown in the Loire Valley not far from the Atlantic, this vibrant white wine is crisp and dry with a bit more body than most wines of the area which results in an attractive texture. The reason, I surmise, is that there is white wine made from the red grape Grolleau adding body to the Melon-de-Bourgogne which dominates the blend. The flavor is clean with just the faintest touch of lees. The lengthy finish is not too different than you would get from a proper Sancerre and other cool-climate whites, without herbaceousness. One prominent Bay area retailer suggested drinking this with oyster bisque, or salted popcorn (the latter is inspired!)
The Wine Country.
