Standing at the top of Verzier's Madone vineyard in the northern Rhone valley, there is a breathtaking view of the river below. The Syrah grown here is of superior character.
Description
We've been drawn to the perfumed Syrahs of Domaine de Chante-Perdrix (singing partridge) from the first time we sampled them over 25 years ago. Reminding us of the much more expensive Cote-Roties a few miles to the north, they simply beguiled us. Verzier's single-vineyard hillside Madone (named for the Madonna statue near the crest) has all the blueberry and violet aromas we look for in northern Rhone Syrah along with supple textures and a generous mouthfeel. A lot of goodness here.
