Txomin Etxaniz 2025 Getaria Txakolina Rose, Basque Country, Spain

If I were to pick out my favorite Txakolina estate, it would be Txomin Etxaniz (CHO-meen ETCH-ah-nees), not just because of its stunning views of the Mediterranean, but because year in and year out their wines are exceptional.  This is the first time I’ve experienced the rosé (not very much is available), and once again I am impressed.  Made from old-vine hillside Hondarribi Beltza, the rare Basque red grape grown in chalky soils, the wine is a joy to drink.  A pale color, vibrant aroma, with delicious fruit with a dose of minerality and a surprise splash of tangy-tartness in the finish.  It doesn’t have the sparkling character of some Txakolis, but there is plenty of life here.  Coming in at just 11% alcohol, I can drink this all day—and all night—long!
