NO ONE NIGHT STAND
I fell asleep thinking about it.
I woke up thinking about it.
Thinking about it now has the tiny hairs on the back of my neck beginning to tingle and rise. The air in my chest sinks deeper, and my heart is thumping away, almost as if it were trying to find a way to crack through my chest, find you again.
Here it is the next morning and again I rise with you on my mind, squeezing my heart, stealing my breath.
I’m captive.
I’m stained and unwilling to wash.
Haunted, in the most achingly delicious way.
I know you aren’t here long but, I must be with you again.
One night, several sips and here I am, vibrating just thinking about the most stunningly beautiful Sancerre Rouge I have ever had. Period. My nose found familiarity in the cologne. The red fruit, cassis, smoke, sweet cured meat, that aroma that weaves right through my flesh, up my spine and caresses that plump, wanting memory of being in Burgundy. Drinking the world’s best Pinot Noirs and wishing anything else on the planet smelled as perfectly seductive and absorbing, and there it was but with a slightly rougher accent. As my fingers fly across my laptop keys so fast I keep misspelling things I can see the skin on my arms pulling tight and become covered in goosebumps, just thinking about tasting, smelling, being toyed with by that wine again.
2022 Vincent Gaudry Sancerre Rouge is the wine that tugged me back to France in one sniff. They only make 400 cases and the importer, that man that poured that splash of sultry Sancerre Rouge in my glass, the one that cracked a grin and shot me a knowing look when he watched my eyes roll back just before I dove in for more, he got half their production for the United States, so 200 cases, for the whole country. I begged for three cases on the spot, he saw my face, felt my desperation, he let me have them and now, my absolute geekdom has me here, at my laptop, telling you about this rare gem of Loire Valley Pinot Noir, (actually Pinot fin which is a rare clone of Pinot Noir) from Sancerre. I thought with the holidays coming it might sell but between telling people in the shop, and my sharing on social media, well, half those bottles are already sold!
Such a meticulously made wine, so dedicated to making this spectacular Sancerre Rouge he farms and bottles by the lunar calendar. Even the corks he uses are from an artisan producer, they are aged 13 years and produced with no chemicals or glues, so you will never get a cork tainted bottle of his Sancerre Rouge. That kind of dedication is pretty damn sexy, and costly, so along with farming naturally, which means forty hours labor in the vineyard what Roundup could burn, literally burn, through in four hours. This wine is an exquisite tribute to classic French Pinot Noir and is, as I stated earlier, the best Sancerre Rouge I have ever had the honor to sip, and stripped by. Burgundy freaks, I’m looking at you, you want this wine, trust me. Anyone that wants to get tangled up and lost in a bottle of beguiling aromatics, this wine is waiting for you.
Selling on pre-arrival, wine is arriving early October.
Cannot Wait.
